FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are LEDs?

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are electric components that convert electricity into light. LEDs are produced in the same way as that used to produce microchips for computers and phones. Therefore, the quality of LEDs is constant and consistent. Degeneration of LEDs is also far less than degeneration of conventional floodlight bulbs. That is why LED ensures better light quality and consistency over a longer period of time.

Why are LEDs more efficient than conventional floodlights?

LEDs require less energy to produce light making them, in essence, much more energyefficient illumination providers. They also don’t require time to warm up or cool down. LEDs are, therefore, also much more effective in terms of energy consumption. Today’s commercially available LEDs have a Lumen/Watt efficiency which is comparable with that of Metal Halide Lamps. Additional efficiency is also achieved as LED luminaires can direct the light where it is needed. This leads to superior lux/watt efficiency.

What makes LEDs different from conventional floodlights?

LEDs are much more flexible than conventional floodlights. LEDs can be switched on and off as often as is required, without having a negative effect on the durability or quality of the illumination.

This ability enables LEDs to be connected to smart lighting control management systems. These systems can contribute to achieving additional savings, reducing possible light pollution and enhancing the experience of the beneficiaries of light.

How is the energy consumption of LED compared to conventional floodlights?

LEDs are, by far, superior compared to conventional floodlights in terms of reduced energy consumptions. In general, LED luminaires in this large area application consume 30% less energy than conventional floodlights. Additional savings can be achieved by combining LEDs with smart lighting control systems. ONOR knows from experience that savings of up to 80% are feasible.

Why is LED light perceived to be different from conventional floodlights?

Light produced by LEDs is whiter and creates a daylight impression. This provides more contrast and allows for easier detection of movements and depth. Also, color retention is far much better with LED luminaires than conventional floodlights.

Can the same luminaire be used for illuminating a sports field and an industrial area?

Sports fields typically require between 100 and 1000 hours illumination annually, where large industrial areas have to be illuminated for approximately 4500 hours per year. This huge difference in burning hours warrants a tailor-made solution that fits the needs of each individual industry. Using the same luminaire to illuminate both sports and industrial areas would not provide the illumination and product endurance that is required.

Can ONOR LED luminaires be used within an existing infrastructure (same mast, elextrical cabling?)

This is certainly possible. It is always advisable to investigate if the masts are still strong enough. In most cases, this shouldn’t be a problem. The position of the mast will definitely not be a problem nor will be the cabling. In short; ONOR LED luminaires are a perfect solution for retrofitting existing Metal Halide luminaires.

What will be difference between installing LED luminaires in a new project compared to installing in an existing project?

LED luminaires require thinner and fewer cables to provide energy to the luminaires. This allows for investments in new projects to be significantly reduced. It also provides more flexibility when LED floodlights are an option for use in an existing project.

How will different mast heights affect the fixtures?

The height of the mast does not affect good quality LED illumination.  The luminaires can beapplied to different mast heights, ranging from 12 to 45 meters. Typical mast height used for sports is 15 meters. For industrial areas, luminaires are normally fitted at masts up to 45 meters of height.

Do you need as many LED luminaires to meet the illumination standard as you need with conventional luminaires?

Thanks to the better illumination quality of LED luminaires, often less luminaires will be required to illuminate the same area according to the standard.

What's the lifespan of LED floodlight?

There is a difference in needed lifespan between sports and industrial applications. The luminaires for industrial applications are designed for a lifetime of more than 14 years. LEDs and other electrical components are applied well below the maximum specification points for voltage, current and temperature. Therefore, the lifetime of the components should be up to 60 000 hours.

For sports projects, the LED luminaires are designed for a lifetime of more than 25 years.

Are LED luminaires producing as much light pollution as conventional floodlights do?

LED luminaires are better to aim and provide less light-spill. LED luminaires can also be controlled flexibly, allowing facility managers to switch off lights or reduce the illumination intensity at times when no high-quality illumination is required. Both advantages actively contribute to less light pollution.

Is there a possibility to relieve a particular part of the area?

The unique ONOR Lighting Control Management System allows for the instruction of every detail to each luminaire, including the desired light level for a particular area. As a LED luminaire is made up of various strips with LED lights, each strip can be individually controlled. This makes it possible to manipulate the illumination quality of particular areas.

Is it likely that today's LED luminaires can be upgraded in the future?

Yes, ONOR luminaires and controls are designed with quality and flexibility in mind. The luminaires are connected wirelessly to a control box. The (software) protocol is called LEDxLINK. This software translates the consumer preferences, instructed via the control box, to the luminaires. The control box holds the intelligence of the entire system. Software updates can be sent directly to the control box and the control box, in return, will ensure that the performance of

the entire system is updated.

How to replace the metal halide/HQI floodlights? Do we need special accessories?

Normally you can replace the conventional lamps directly with our LED floodlight. Just take down the old lamps and put our lights on the pole/holder. We designed strong and adjustable bracket for the LED floodlights that you can install them on different places.

How long is life span of ONOR LED floodlights? Can it really reach 80,000 hours?

When we talking about lifespan of LED, it refers to L70 which is when the lumen maintenance is 70% of the original level. Generally it is not convenient to test a LED lamp continuously for 80,000 hours. So generally the lab will using accelerated aging test method to get the lumen depreciation situation after 6000 hours or 10000 hours , together with Decay curve fitting, to evaluate lifespan of LED. Currently there are two main standards of testing lumens depreciation, they are LM79 and LM-80. When the test reports meet standards of 80,000 hours requirement, we can state the life span of the LED lamp reach 800,00 hours.

What is junction temperature of ONOR high power LED floodlight?

Generally it is below 70℃ of the PN junction due to advanced Lumileds chip and perfect heat sink structure.

What are the main differences between ONOR LED floodlight and other products?

– Lighting efficiency and CRI are higher which reach 150lm/w and CRI>Ra83

– Advanced optical lens and professional beam angles

– Much better heat dissipation performance, surface temperature of heat sink is below 75℃. Temperature rise is within 35℃. Guarantees the lifetime up to 10 years
