VALENCIA HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY LIGHTING PROJECT
500W Lightwing LED Floodlights for High-Mast Railway Infrastructure
Valencia railway infrastructure lighting project with 500W Lightwing, 5000K and 30° optics.
Valencia High-Speed Railway Lighting Project: Reliable Visibility with 500W Lightwing Floodlights
Railway lighting is a demanding infrastructure application. Large track areas, overhead catenary systems, maintenance zones, switching points and service roads all need dependable visibility after dark. At a high-speed railway facility in Valencia, Spain, ONOR Lighting supplied a high-mast LED lighting solution using 500W Lightwing series floodlights with a 5000K color temperature and a 30° beam angle.
The project demonstrates how carefully selected optics and robust luminaire construction can support railway operations with bright, controlled and reliable illumination. Instead of treating the site as a simple area-lighting job, the solution was configured around the geometry of the railway yard: long viewing distances, multiple tracks, vertical equipment, complex overhead wiring and the need to illuminate wide operational areas from elevated mounting positions.

Why High-Speed Railway Lighting Requires More Than High Output
Railway yards are visually complex environments. Workers may need to identify track boundaries, equipment, signals, service areas and obstacles while moving through a space filled with poles, wires and mechanical infrastructure. A lighting system therefore needs to do more than produce high lumen output. It must place useful light where it is required while controlling excessive glare and unnecessary spill.
High-mast lighting is well suited to large railway areas because elevated mounting positions can distribute light across long distances and wide working zones. The challenge is optical control: a beam that is too wide can waste light outside the target area, while a beam that is too narrow may create hot spots and leave surrounding areas under-lit.
For this Valencia project, ONOR used a 30° beam configuration. This controlled distribution provides a practical balance between throw distance and coverage for high-mast applications, helping direct light toward tracks and operational surfaces from an elevated position.
5000K Light for Clear Railway-Site Visibility
The project uses a 5000K cool-white color temperature. In railway and infrastructure environments, a crisp white appearance can help create a visually clear working atmosphere, especially where operators need to distinguish equipment, rails, markings and surrounding structures at night.
Lightwing Quality for Demanding Outdoor Infrastructure
- IP67 ingress protection for outdoor exposure to dust and water.
- 20 kV surge protection to strengthen electrical resilience in exposed installations.
- A wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +55°C.
- An expected service life of more than 100,000 hours for the Lightwing platform.
- An aerodynamic, low-windage housing concept using marine-grade aluminum.
- Flexible optical options, including 30° distributions for controlled high-mast lighting.
Lighting Effect: Controlled, Wide-Area Illumination
The project photographs show the Lightwing luminaires mounted in circular high-mast arrays above the railway yard. This arrangement allows the lighting system to cover multiple tracks and working areas from a limited number of elevated mounting points. The 30° beam helps concentrate useful intensity on the working plane rather than sending excessive light into the sky.
FAQ for Railway Lighting Projects
5000K produces a crisp cool-white appearance that can support clear visual recognition of rails, equipment and work areas.
A 30° beam can provide controlled throw from elevated mounting positions, balancing long-distance projection with practical area coverage.
Strong ingress protection and surge protection help improve system resilience and reduce maintenance risk in outdoor weather.
